Pumper Bundles on Shopify: your first hour in Australia
Your first hour with Pumper Bundles on Shopify is bundle structure, discount maths and GST treatment, not theming. An Australian walkthrough, priced in USD.

Pumper Bundles Conversion
The short answer: Pumper Bundles is a Shopify app for quantity breaks, bundles, BOGO offers and free gifts. Your first hour belongs to bundle structure, discount logic and GST treatment, not to theming or product-page polish. Pumper's App Store listing, checked on 2 September 2026, shows four plans, all billed in USD. Free covers up to US$300 of tracked revenue; Starter is US$9.99 up to US$1,000, Growth US$29.99 up to US$5,000, and Unlimited US$49.99 with no cap. Each paid tier carries a 7-day trial. Every bundle you publish inherits the settings you choose in the first hour.
If you're new to the platform, what Shopify is and how it works in Australia is a separate question. This page is narrower: the hour after you install Pumper, and the decisions that hold or haemorrhage margin. The Shopify Australia setup guide covers the platform-wide steps.
Australian retail turnover was A$37,906.6 million in June 2025, up 1.2% month-on-month, according to the Australian Bureau of Statistics. Bundles are one way merchants chase that growth. The question is whether the bundle is profitable after discount, GST and postage, and that's a first-hour decision, not a later fix.
The Baymard Institute has documented that the average online shopping cart abandonment rate sits at 70.22%. The orders that convert need to be profitable. If you want to understand how Shopify costs work in Australia more broadly, that guide covers the platform fees; this one covers the app.
The structure decision Pumper Bundles forces on you
The first thing Pumper asks you to decide is structural. Which products go in the bundle. How inventory tracks against them. Which variant carries the stock count.
These settings sit behind every offer you publish. A bundle isn't a product page with a nice card. It's a set of parent-child relationships in your store's inventory, with a discount rule applied on top. Get the relationships wrong and you oversell components you don't have. Get the discount wrong and you erode margin on every order.
Theming comes later. Pumper's listing advertises a page-builder and cart-drawer integration, but that only matters once the skeleton holds. Spend your first hour choosing colours for the bundle widget and you've spent it in the wrong place. The structure is what ships, what the ATO sees on the tax invoice, and what your carrier charges to deliver.
Plan the bundle skeleton before you install
Three questions before you touch the install button. Answer them on paper, not in the app:
- Which products make up the bundle, and are they all in stock with accurate counts?
- What discount does the bundle offer, and does it hold once the AUD price includes GST?
- Which product is the parent — the one whose inventory deducts when a bundle sells?
Installation is fast. What slows you down is the planning. Pumper's App Store listing, checked on 2 September 2026, advertises unlimited bundles and quantity breaks across all four plans, with 24/7 chat support and page-builder and cart-drawer integrations. The listing does not document what happens when you cross a plan's revenue cap. Write to Pumper's support team and ask before you assume the app stops working or prompts an upgrade.
Pumper's prices are in USD. Earning in AUD means the revenue cap on each plan fills at a rate that depends on the AUD/USD exchange rate. Prices can change; the App Store listing is authoritative on the day you check.
Our suggested pre-install checklist, copy-ready:
- Component products listed and in stock.
- Discount type chosen (percentage, fixed, or free gift).
- Parent product assigned for inventory.
- Bundle weight equals sum of component weights.
- GST-inclusive price calculated.
Your first hour: a time-boxed setup walkthrough
Here's a sequenced walk through the first 60 minutes. The goal is one live, compliant bundle by the end of the hour.
- Install Pumper from the Shopify App Store (5 min). Approve the permissions and select your plan. The 7-day free trial applies to paid tiers.
- Choose your bundle type (5 min): quantity break, BOGO, fixed bundle or free gift.
- Select component products and set the parent (10 min). The parent is the product whose inventory deducts when a bundle sells.
- Set the discount (10 min): percentage off, fixed amount off, or a free item added to the cart.
- Configure GST (10 min). Confirm the bundle price flows through Shopify's tax engine and the tax-inclusive price displays correctly for Australian customers.
- Test in the cart drawer (15 min). Check the price, the stock deduction and the discount line. Verify the add-to-cart button works.
- Publish the offer (5 min).
The Nielsen Norman Group found product pages need a visible price, clear options and an unmissable add-to-cart path. Pumper's cart-drawer integration handles the add-to-cart path. The price display and the options are your responsibility. Verify them before you publish.
Discount maths: where bundle profit leaks
A 20% discount on a three-item bundle isn't 20% off the sum of the component prices. It's 20% off the bundle price, which in Australia is a tax-inclusive price. The GST component shrinks with the discount. The margin you keep is smaller than the headline suggests.
The leak is usually in the rounding. A bundle priced at A$59.40 with 20% off should display A$47.52. If the widget rounds to A$47.50, you've lost two cents per bundle across hundreds of orders. Two cents per order. A pattern across hundreds.
The bigger leak is the revenue cap. Pumper's Free plan caps at US$300 in tracked revenue. Starter caps at US$1,000, Growth at US$5,000, and Unlimited has no cap. All caps are in USD. Earning in AUD means the cap fills at a rate that depends on the exchange rate on the day.
The ACCC states that a business must be able to prove any claim it advertises. If your bundle page says "save 20%", the maths behind that claim needs to hold on the first order and the thousandth.
GST on bundles: the settings you confirm in the first hour
The ATO requires you to register for GST once your GST turnover reaches A$75,000 or more. The Australian Business Register states you're entitled to an ABN if you're carrying on an enterprise in Australia. If you haven't sorted the ABN, do that before you configure tax in Shopify.
The practical step in your first hour is confirming that Pumper's bundle price flows through Shopify's tax engine. If the bundle displays a tax-inclusive price and the GST component calculates correctly on the order summary, the invoice looks right to a registered business. If the price displays tax-exclusive and GST is added at checkout, verify the total matches what the customer saw on the product page.
How the discount splits across a bundle's components for invoicing is a question for the ATO's rules and your accountant — the app's listing documents no GST allocation behaviour of its own.
Pumper Bundles or Shopify's native bundles
When not to install Pumper: if your bundle is a simple fixed pack with no quantity breaks, no BOGO and no free-gift logic, Shopify may already handle it without an app. Shopify's own guide to bundle apps describes the native Bundles feature for fixed product sets; the app's value is in the discount logic the native tools don't cover. If you don't need quantity tiers, BOGO or gift logic, an app adds overhead you can't justify.
Here's how the two compare on the decisions that matter in the first hour, with the app side cited to its listing:
| Pumper Bundles | Shopify's own options | |
|---|---|---|
| Bundle types | Quantity breaks, BOGO, free gifts, fixed bundles (per the App Store listing) | Native Bundles plus discount codes |
| Discount logic | Tiered, percentage, fixed-amount, gift-with-purchase | Shopify's built-in discount engine |
| GST treatment | Flows through Shopify's tax engine | Flows through Shopify's tax engine |
| Monthly cost | US$0–US$49.99, billed in USD, revenue-capped tiers | No additional cost |
| Best for | Stores needing volume discounts, BOGO or gift logic | Stores needing a simple fixed bundle only |
The split is clean. Anything more complex than a fixed two-product pack is what you're paying Pumper for, and configuring it correctly once beats fighting tools that weren't built for it. For a simple fixed bundle with no discount complexity, use what Shopify already gives you.
Shipping a bundle: the weight question
Bundle weight and parcel dimensions are set at the product level in Shopify. Pumper creates a bundle product that Shopify's shipping engine treats like any other. It doesn't override the carrier calculation.
The trap is weight. A bundle of three 500g items weighs 1.5kg, not 500g. If the bundle product's weight field carries the parent product's weight rather than the sum of its components, every order ships with the wrong postage quote. Carriers price by weight band and destination. A 500g parcel and a 1.5kg parcel are not the same cost. Our Australia Post shipping guide covers the bands with its own retrieval date.
Set the bundle's weight as the sum of its components, then check the quoted postage against your carrier's published rates. The Baymard Institute found 40% of shoppers abandon carts because extra costs like shipping, tax and fees are too high. A bundle that underquotes postage doesn't just lose money on the parcel; it adds a surprise at checkout.
What to skip in your first hour
Theming. Badges. Upsell widgets. Display customisation.
Skip anything that changes how the bundle looks before you've confirmed what it charges. A styled bundle widget with the wrong price is worse than an unstyled one that's correct.
The same applies to email marketing and post-purchase flows. The ACMA requires consent before sending marketing emails, and every commercial message must include an unsubscribe option that honours requests within five working days. Set that up later, not in the first hour.
The consumer watchdog's guidance on refunds and repairs gives consumers a repair, replacement or refund when a product fails its guarantees. A bundle doesn't change that obligation, but it does mean the component products need to be returnable individually if one fails. Sort the returns logic after the skeleton is live, not before.
Frequently asked questions
Can I use Pumper Bundles on Shopify's Basic plan?
Pumper Bundles is a Shopify app, not a plan-gated feature. It installs on any Shopify plan, including Basic. The plan you're on affects your Shopify Payments rate, not which apps you can run. The listing documents plan availability, not a Shopify-plan requirement.
What happens when I hit Pumper's revenue cap?
Pumper's listing doesn't document what happens when you cross a plan's cap. That's a question for Pumper's support before you assume the app pauses offers or bills an upgrade. The caps are in USD, so earning in AUD means the cap fills at a rate that tracks the exchange rate.
Do my bundle prices need to include GST?
Australian storefront prices for registered businesses are normally shown GST-inclusive, and the ATO registration obligation starts at A$75,000 of GST turnover. What applies to your shop depends on your registration status — a question for the ATO's rules or your accountant, not for this page.
Should I test the bundle before publishing it?
Yes. Add the bundle to the cart in an incognito window and check three things: the displayed price, the stock deduction on each component, and the discount line at checkout. Publish only once the cart drawer, the order summary and the invoice all show the same numbers.
