That bulk editing is the feature that earns its keep on an Australian store. The keyword research tools are calibrated for US and UK English, which means the search-volume data and suggested terms lean American. Pricing is in USD on the [App Store listing](https://apps.shopify.com/storeseo), checked on 30 August 2026, and the AUD conversion plus GST is on you. If you have more than a handful of products and your catalogue is stable, the bulk editing pays for itself. If you have five products, it does not. You have just installed StoreSEO and the dashboard is staring at you. Most of what it shows is reporting on things Shopify already generates — your sitemap, your canonical URLs, your structured data. The value is in the bulk editor, and in the AI-generated meta descriptions you can accept or reject per product. If your store is not set up yet, start with our [Shopify Australia setup guide](https://aussiestoreguides.com/shopify-australia-setup-guide/) before worrying about SEO. [What is Shopify and how does it work in Australia?](https://aussiestoreguides.com/what-is-shopify-australia/) covers the platform basics if you are still choosing. Online retail in Australia grew from 1.8 % of retail turnover in May 2013 to 6.3 % in 2019, according to the Australian Bureau of Statistics. Retail sales fell 17.0 % in April 2020 during lockdowns, then rose 16.0 % in May when restrictions eased. That shift pushed more buyers online, and the meta fields on your product pages are what Google reads first. ## Table of contents - [What StoreSEO does when you install it](#what-storeseo-does) - [What Shopify already handles without it](#what-shopify-does-natively) - [Fill these fields in first](#fill-these-in-first) - [What you can safely skip in StoreSEO](#what-you-can-skip) - [Does StoreSEO write Australian English?](#australian-english) - [Pricing in AUD: what StoreSEO really costs](#pricing-in-aud) - [When not to install StoreSEO](#when-not-to-install) - [StoreSEO vs Australian needs](#comparison) - [Frequently asked questions](#frequently-asked-questions) - [Sources](#sources) ## What StoreSEO does when you install it StoreSEO's [App Store listing](https://apps.shopify.com/storeseo), checked on 30 August 2026, describes an app that scans your catalogue and collects every meta title, meta description, image alt text and sitemap issue per product. You see them all in one dashboard and can edit them in bulk rather than opening each product page in the Shopify admin. It also generates AI-powered meta descriptions and alt text. You can accept, reject or rewrite each suggestion. The app scores each product page's SEO and flags missing fields. That score is StoreSEO's own metric — Shopify does not publish a comparable number, and the score is not a Google ranking factor. For an Australian store, the useful part is the bulk editor. Two hundred products with missing alt text? StoreSEO lets you fix that in one session. Twelve products? The Shopify admin already does the job. ## What Shopify already handles without it Shopify generates a sitemap automatically. Shopify's help centre documentation states that your sitemap updates when products are added, removed or changed, and you do not need an app to create or submit it. Shopify also sets canonical URLs on every product page to prevent duplicate-content issues. And metafields — the custom fields that many SEO apps write to — are editable directly in the Shopify admin. StoreSEO takes over the editing workflow and the reporting layer, not the infrastructure. So the sitemap, the canonicals and the metafield structure are already there. What is often missing is the content — the titles, the descriptions, the alt text — and that is what StoreSEO helps you fill in. Where StoreSEO's sitemap report flags an issue, the fix is usually in Shopify, not in StoreSEO. ## Fill these fields in first 1. **Run the SEO audit.** StoreSEO scans your catalogue and flags missing meta titles, descriptions and alt text. Start here — it tells you what is actually broken. 2. **Fix missing alt text first.** Alt text is the field most Australian stores leave empty, and it is the one Google reads for image search. The bulk editor lets you write it per product without opening each page. 3. **Review the AI meta descriptions.** StoreSEO generates a suggestion per product. Read each one — the AI does not know your brand voice, and it defaults to American phrasing. 4. **Fill in meta titles for products that have none.** Shopify uses your product title by default. A longer meta title can help, but only if it reads naturally in Australian English. 5. **Check the sitemap report, but do not act on it yet.** StoreSEO reports sitemap status, but Shopify generates and updates the sitemap automatically. If Google Search Console shows errors, those are usually Shopify-side. 6. **Skip the keyword research tools for now.** The search-volume data is calibrated for US and UK English. Come back to it after the content fields are filled. One thing to watch: StoreSEO's content suggestions use American spelling. "Organize" instead of "organise", "color" instead of "colour". If your store's voice is Australian English, you will need to override the spelling on every generated field. **Check the listing before you commit:** [StoreSEO](https://platform.shoffi.app/r/rl_dXPoHaW2) — Plans and prices live on the App Store listing, in USD. StoreSEO pulls search-volume data for the markets it supports, and the data skews American. Australian search volume for the same product term can differ — "thongs" versus "flip-flops" is the obvious example, and the tool does not flag that distinction. The AI search engine optimisation features — optimising for ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity — are new. StoreSEO's App Store listing mentions them, checked on 30 August 2026, but no third-party study confirms they move rankings for Australian stores. The Google Business Profile integration posts updates to your profile, but it does not sync Shopify inventory or product data. It is a separate workflow from the bulk editing, and for most online-only stores it adds little. ## Does StoreSEO write Australian English? No, not by default. The AI-generated meta descriptions and alt text use American spelling and American phrasing. "Organize", "color", "customize" — the patterns are consistent across the content StoreSEO generates. This matters for two reasons. Your product pages should match the English your customers search in, and Australian English spelling is what Google tends to match for Australian queries. If your store uses Australian spelling in product descriptions, American spelling in the meta data creates an inconsistency. You can edit every field. The question is whether you have time to override the spelling per product — and if you do, the bulk editor's speed advantage shrinks. ## Pricing in AUD: what StoreSEO really costs StoreSEO's [App Store listing](https://apps.shopify.com/storeseo), checked on 30 August 2026, prices its plans in USD. The listing shows a free tier and multiple paid tiers, and prices can change — the App Store page is the authoritative source. The AUD conversion moves with the exchange rate, and your bank's margin — typically above the mid-market rate — makes the real cost higher than the headline number. The GST question matters. According to the ATO, from 1 July 2017, GST applies to the sale of imported services and digital products to Australian consumers. StoreSEO is an imported digital service. The ATO requires non-residents to register for GST when their GST turnover from Australian consumers reaches A$75,000, and registration is due within 21 days of exceeding that threshold. Non-profits face a higher threshold of A$150,000. If StoreSEO has not registered, you pay the USD price converted to AUD with no GST added. If it has, GST appears on the invoice. Our [Shopify cost in Australia](https://aussiestoreguides.com/shopify-cost-australia/) guide breaks down the same dynamic for the platform itself. ## When not to install StoreSEO Three situations where the app does not earn its keep. Your store has fewer than 10 products. The Shopify admin handles meta titles and descriptions on that scale without a bulk editor. Your catalogue is about to be rebuilt — if you are rewriting product titles and descriptions next month, StoreSEO will score the old ones and you will undo the work. Your store has no content to rank yet, and an SEO app on a store with no product descriptions is polishing an empty room. The Office of the Australian Information Commissioner defines a small business as one with an annual turnover of A$3 million or less. Most Shopify stores on the Basic plan fall under that threshold, which simplifies your privacy obligations under the Privacy Act. It does not change whether StoreSEO is worth the subscription. **Our suggested decision rule:** install StoreSEO if you have 50 or more products with stable titles and missing meta fields. Skip it if you have fewer than 10, if your catalogue is being rewritten, or if your store has no product content yet. ## StoreSEO vs Australian needs | Feature | StoreSEO's offering | What Australian stores need | |---|---|---| | Bulk meta editing | Per-product editing of titles, descriptions and alt text | Bulk editing in Australian English | | Keyword research | US and UK English search-volume data | Australian search-volume and local terms | | AI content generation | Auto-generated meta descriptions and alt text | Australian English matching brand voice | | Sitemap reporting | Flags sitemap issues | Shopify generates and updates the sitemap | | Google Business Profile | Posts updates to your profile | Sync between Shopify inventory and listings | | AI search optimisation | Optimises for ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity | Proven ranking signals for Australian Google | | Pricing | USD subscription with a free tier | AUD pricing with GST included | The bulk editor is the feature that justifies StoreSEO on an Australian store with a real catalogue. This requires 50 products or more, stable titles, and the time to override the American English defaults. Below that scale, the Shopify admin already does the job and the USD subscription is not worth the conversion. The keyword tools will not get you there — Australian search behaviour differs enough that a content-first approach earns its keep. ## Frequently asked questions ### Is StoreSEO good for Australian local SEO and Google Maps? StoreSEO has a Google Business Profile integration, but it posts updates rather than syncing product data. For Google Maps ranking, your profile categories, opening hours and customer reviews matter more than anything StoreSEO does. The app does not manage reviews or local citations, which are the two levers that actually move local rankings. ### How does StoreSEO's USD pricing convert to AUD? The App Store listing prices in USD, checked on 30 August 2026. Your bank applies its exchange rate plus a margin of 2–3 % above the mid-market rate. GST may apply under the ATO's rules on imported digital products from 1 July 2017. Whether StoreSEO has registered for GST in Australia determines whether the price is GST-inclusive or GST-exclusive, so check the invoice line items before comparing it to an Australian-built alternative. ### Does StoreSEO use Australian English spelling? Not by default. The AI-generated content uses American spelling — "organize", "color", "customize" — and American phrasing patterns. You can edit every field, but on a 200-product catalogue, overriding spelling per product can take several hours and reduces the speed advantage that made the bulk editor worth installing. ### When should I skip StoreSEO entirely? Skip it if you have fewer than 10 products, if your catalogue is about to be rewritten, or if your store has no product content yet. The cost of running the store is not the bottleneck. The content is. ## Sources 1. Shopify App Store, "StoreSEO". https://apps.shopify.com/storeseo — checked on 30 August 2026. 2.
